Bombay Stock Exchange Ltd. (BSE)

It is the eldest stock exchange on India and Asia. It was founded in 1875 as The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association. It is recognized by the state in 1956 as the official trading floor in the country. In 2005 it was transformed into a corporation.

Trading volume: $158,982 billion (2005). Listing: 4781 companies (2006).Capitalization: $553,074 billion (2005). Profit: $15,632 million (2004-2005).

The main index: BSE-100 — nation-wide index which consists of shares of more than 100 biggest companies listed at Indian stock exchanges.
